It’s time for a little more fried sugary goodness to brighten up your day, and this time it comes in the form of Cinnamon Apple Rings. Think onion rings, but healthier, because it’s apples instead. And it’s sweet, not salty. That’s healthier right?

Okay, not really, but these fried cinnamon apple rings come just in time for apple-picking season, so you could potentially make enough of them for the whole neighbourhood, including everyone's favourite Montreal blog, MTL Blog:)

Super easy to make (and eat), if fried cinnamon apple rings are not an instant foodgasm, then we honestly don’t know what is. That delicious cooked apple taste, with a yummy golden-fried crust, all magically enrobed in sweet cinnamon-y goodness, you can now easily eat an apple a day, no problem.

Here’s what you’ll need:

For the apple rings

  • 4 large apples
  • 1 cup flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ Teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the cinnamon sugar topping:

  • ⅓ Cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Then it’s as easy as pie, actually it’s easier.

Use a cookie-cutter to cut out apple rings.

Then carefully coat each ring in the batter and fry them in oil at 350°F, turning once.

Then transfer them to a plate lined with paper-towel to remove excess grease, and dip in the cinnamon sugar.

Apple deserts remind many of us of the comforts of home, but these babies are definitely the new American classic.
