City Of Montreal Warning: Do Not Drive To Work Today

Do not drive to work today. Seriously, don’t do it, unless you want to deal with a morning rush hour filled with frustration.

But don’t take our word for it.

The City of Montreal issued a formal statement urging Montrealers to leave the car at home and get to work/school via public transit, saying the city’s ongoing snow removal operations will create a slow-moving rush hour this Monday morning.

"It is expected to be difficult," said City of Montreal spokesperson Philippe Sabourin, reports La Presse

Major roadways where schools, hospitals, and bus routes are located, explained Sabourin, will be the first priority for snow-clearing by municipal employees this morning. With that in mind, the added traffic of commuters will cause added traffic woes.

"The motto is, when you can, take public transit," said Saburin. This is not a snowfall… we got 36 centimetres."

According to the City of Montreal, the latest snow removal operation will take the rest of the work-week, for a total of at least five days.

It could take longer. Some residential areas of the city may not see slow cleared until Friday or Saturday.

Snow-clearing will be moving slowly because of the sheer amount of snow, said Sabourin.
