Canada is home to many world-renown universities. And, though we like to think of universities as venerable institutions that have been around for a couple hundred years, new universities are being founded all time time.

The Times Higher Education, an organisation that specializes in ranking universities, has decided to rank "the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger."

The ranking, according to the Times, use the same indicators as their famous World University Rankings, but puts less emphasis on reputation.

So, what does this ranking tell us? Well, it ranks Concordia as the best new university in Canada

There are a total of 351 universities in the ranking. After the first 100, the universities are simply ranked 101-150 or 151-200, for example.

Concordia landed in the 101-150 range. The Times states that Concordia University "prides itself on being welcoming and committed to innovation and excellence in education, research, creative activity and community partnerships."

The Times notes that "alumni include twice winter Olympic gold medallist, Alexandre Bildeau, the writer Annie Proulx, and founder of indie rock band Arcade Fire, Régine Chassagne."

Three other Canadian universities made it on the list. The University of Regina was ranked as the second best new university in Canada, landing in the 151-200th ranking.

The other Canadian university on the list is University of Northern British Columbia, which ranks in the 201-250 range.

In the World University Rankings, Concordia lands in the 601-800 range.

The "best" universities in Canada that feature in the World University Ranking are the University of Toronto (21st overall), the University of British Columbia (37th overall), and McGill University (44th overall).

Concordia was just ranked as the best new university in Canada by Times Higher Education.
