A window into the metro's earliest days.

Fifty years ago, Montreal received a gift the whole city could enjoy and use: the STM metro network. Okay, maybe it wasn't quite a "gift" and was more an essential mode of transportation, but nevertheless, half a century ago the metro network was opened and getting around Montreal was made much easier.

But as with all great things, a lot of time and effort went into its creation, and the Montreal metro system is no exception. Hundreds of hours of work went into excavating and constructing underground network, all of which was fairly well documented photographically, apparently.
