• La Bêtise in Verdun is offering free oysters while supplies last at its 5 à 7!
  • The bar already offers $1 oysters every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • If you're feeling daring, try the oyster shot ($8); a mix of tequila, clamato, a dash of lemon and a fresh oyster dropped in.

The Verdun bar and tapas lounge, La Bêtise, has long been an oyster lovers favourite stop on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays with their $1 oyster specials. But this Wednesday, September 25 they are doing one even better than that and serving up their oysters for free. And how often do we ever see that?

According to our colleagues at Narcity Québec, the free oysters are available during their popular cinq à sept, so cut out of work early and head to the heart of the Rosemont-Petite-Patrie district to get your fill.

There is no purchase necessary to enjoy, but if you want to chase down your oysters with something other than water, there is an extensive drinks list including cocktails, wine, and of course bubbles (my personal favourite) that are on average about $10.

Yeah, you can eat oysters year-round. But since the oyster season is already gearing up in September, this is a great intro to the best of what the season has to offer.

With the weather in Montreal still mild, and rain so far not in the forecast (fingers crossed), you can still grab a seat on their terrasse, have an oyster or two, sip a drink and pretend it's a midsummer seafood feast.

Oysters can be a love 'em or hate 'em food. If you're more part of the latter group, there is still a full menu to order from. Though those will come with a price tag. Most of the plates are meant for sharing so you can still keep costs low while sampling their food.

There are quite a few twists on the classics like their Mac & Cheese Chinatown that comes with Peking duck and oyster sauce, which is also a must-try.

But if you're only there for the oysters and feeling a little crazy, try the oyster shot ($8); a mix of tequila, clamato, a dash of lemon and a fresh oyster dropped in.

The restaurant's name "La Bêtise" translates roughly to stupidity or folly. So don't expect any pretention here. It's a laid back atmosphere focused more on good food, good drinks and good company.

The restaurant has two locations in Montreal. And while they both have $1 oyster specials different days of the week, it's only their Verdun location that is giving away free oysters.

It's best to be there when the clock strikes 5 p.m. as the free oysters are only available while stock lasts. And this popular tapas bar is always busy, even when they aren't giving away free food.
