- Montreal will soon be celebrating the grand opening of another epic food hall, Le Cathcart.
- Le Cathcart Montreal will also feature a huge glassed-in Biergarten with microbrews and a curated wine list.
- Details about the space and restaurants you can try below!
The food landscape is drastically changing for the better in downtown Montreal. Last November saw the official opening of the Time Out Market, bringing gourmet food to the Eaton Centre and reinventing the idea of what a food court is. And now, the much-anticipated opening date of Montreal's Le Cathcart Restaurants and Biergarten has officially been announced.
Open to the public as of January 23 at Place Ville Marie (PVM), Le Cathcart will be made up of three full-service restaurants, nine food kiosks, two cafes, and a Biergarten that will serve beer, wine cocktails, and even sake.
Yes, technically it's a food court. But it's an epicurean heaven that will blow any usual food courts out of the water.
The space is located under the PVM's new glass pavilion which will be bathed in light and made to feel like an indoor garden. This isn't just a quick place to grab a bite of lunch but also a spot to sit and enjoy great food and drinks.
With a total of 1,000 available seats in addition to the 7,000 square foot Biergarten space, this gourmet glassed-in terrasse will be sure to attract not only professionals working downtown but also foodies from around the city.
The three full-service restaurants will include:
Mirabel: Open morning, noon and night, this simple brewery will serve sophisticated but uncomplicated dishes led by ex-Joe Beef chef Nicholas Giambattisto.
Akio: This Japanese canteen will serve up dishes inspired by Osake cuisine and have a selection of sushi and skewers.
Pizza Del Fornaio: Neapolitan-inspired pizzas are on the menu for this pizzeria.
If you are ok with not having your food brought to your table, check out some of these restaurants that you'll probably recognize: Uniburger, Omnivore, Mon Nan, HÀ, Tulum Taqueria, and Karma Poke.
There will also be newcomers Chikin (Korean fried chicken), and Patzzi (gourmet Italian sandwiches).
Though, it's really the Biergarten that is grabbing a lot of attention. It will have a huge selection of curated microbrews, a wine list prepared by Jatoba sommelier Marc-André Nadeau, and a selection of specialty cocktails.
Lunchtime just got a whole lot boozier.
Much like Time Out Market, Cathcart will also have a multifunctional space featuring one-of-a-kind events, including culinary experiences and musical and artistic performances.
