• Poincaré is a pub in Montreal's Chinatown committed to sustainable practices.
  • Among the menu items is a selection of fermented foods.

It seems as though suddenly everyone is now finally realizing the damage we have done to Mother Earth and together, we are all trying to do our part to help our planet.

Lately I have been making an even bigger effort with the amount of waste I create. I have stopped using water bottles and obviously refuse to use a plastic straw.

However, I know it is sometimes hard to be conscious of your waste levels when you are eating out or grabbing a drink at a bar.

When I heard that there was a new eco-friendly bar opening in our city, I knew I needed to check it out and see what it was all about and I am so happy I did.

Poincaré Chinatown is located on St-Laurent just south of the Chinatown gate and it is about to be your new favourite spot for date night or to grab a drink with friends.

This eco-friendly pub sits within the walls of a converted karaoke bar. Their eco-friendly approach has gained them a lot of kudos from their clients.

The freshness and quality in every plate is honestly what stands out the most and I am clearly not the only person to notice how incredible this establishment truly is.

Clients have gone to the web to confess their new-found love for the pub. "Great vibes, great food," wrote one reviewer. "The service was authentic just like the beer flavours. Will go again."

"Everything is deliciously fresh and local, chances are that whatever is on your plate was made by hand in house or by a friend of the owner," says another.

This eatery does everything in house. From their homemade chorizo and their decadent black garlic aioli, to their plates made to share, everything you touch here is truly a gift to your taste buds.

Fermented food enthusiasts should also note the selection of tangy treats, including kimchi, pickles, and root vegetables.

This eatery also prides itself on an awesome lunch menu. One of their top sellers is “a burger to save the world!”

The beef used in these burgers is “carefully selected from surrounding farms” and “[promotes] regenerative agriculture and carbo-negative breeding,” according to an Instagram post.

These methods help fight climate change while “fueling the discussion on regenerative agriculture.”

Montreal has a lot of cool spots but Poincaré is more than just a local spot to grab a drink or indulge in food. It's a place that participates in global conversations about sustainable consumption.
