- Hanna and Jenna is a new Montreal restaurant that includes huge poke bowls, a lobster roll, and a giant paper mache gnome.
- The goal of the restaurant is to promote healthy eating for every dietary restriction.
The Old Port of Montreal has just welcomed another health and eco-conscious restaurant to the mix. Located appropriately beside vegan restaurant LOV, Hanna and Jenna is an Asian-fusion resto specializing in custom-made poke bowls.
This is the first foray into the Canadian market for Hanna and Jenna after setting up in their first shop in Morocco. The restaurant is named after the owner's twin daughters has a mission to teach the next generation about healthy eating. Its motto, “may food be your only medicine,” says it all.
And they don't fall short on that ideology. The restaurant takes great pride in using fresh ingredients and making food to fit any sort of diet be it vegetarian or omnivorous.
The menu is nice and simple. Their big selling point is really the custom made poke and wok bowls where you choose a base, protein, sauce, and toppings. But they also have appetizers and dessert options to choose from. Though in my humble opinion, the lobster hot dog is really where it's at.
They're a great spot for all-day brunch and freshly made cold-pressed juices and smoothies, with options all less than $13.
The interior of the restaurant is a testament to hip. Everything is Instagrammable. Everything. The food, the cherry blossom tree, the interior garden, the gnome-themed wallpaper, and the unexplainable paper mache gnome that lords over the space.
It's fun to be able to watch chefs at work and Henna and Jenna realized that. You can grab a seat at the bar which is open to the kitchen, so you can watch Chef Anton and the team preparing your meal.
While eco-conscious restaurants or poke restaurants for that matter, are no stranger to Montreal, Hanna and Jenna manage to bring something new to rue McGill.
I also have to give a little shout-out to the blue-cheese burger, though it may seem an odd addition to the menu of an Asian-fusion spot, I don't care. It's amazing.
We highly recommend dropping by this new hot-spot and checking out a few of their plates (or bowls).
