With summer (finally) upon us, it's only a matter of time before picnics, pool parties, and family barbecues get underway. If you're looking for some simple dessert ideas, or if you want to take a little taste of summer to work with you, then check out these 10 mason jar dessert recipes. Not only are most of them easy to make, but they're the perfect snack for any occasion.
1. Fourth Of July Jar
If you're looking for a sweet summer dessert that takes almost no effort at all, then this Fourth Of July Jar is perfect for you. All you do is layer a yogurt/vanilla/Cool Whip blend with assorted berries in a mason jar and you're good to go. It takes about five minutes to make, and even less time to eat.
2. Candy Apple Sundae
Probably the easiest recipe on this whole list to make, the Candy Apple Sundae is perfect for people who are inept in the kitchen. All you do is scoop some vanilla ice cream into a jar, then top it with Granny Smith apple slices and caramel sauce. It's the perfect treat for a hot day, not to mention it makes a great no-mess sundae.
3. Cherry Crisps
With summer comes everyone's favourite time of year: cherry season! There's nothing better than a big bag of freshly picked cherries... well, except for these Cherry Crisps. This dessert is basically cherry pie in a jar. Although you don't have to use fresh cherries for the recipe, it's highly recommended because it compliments the crispy layer on top perfectly.
4. Cool And Creamy Oreo Parfait
If you, like everyone else in the world, enjoys Oreo cookies then you're going to love this dessert too. A decadent love child between Cool Whip, pudding and crushed Oreos, this is a great dish to serve up at family barbecues or birthdays. Just make sure to keep it cold before it's served.
5. Coconut Cream Cheesecake
If ever there was a fruit to encapsulate summer, it's coconut. Which is why you should definitely try these no-bake coconut cream cheesecake jars. Not only does it hold the taste of the tropics, but it's the coolest use of goat cheese (yes, goat cheese) we've ever seen. It's creamy, it's crunchy, it's sweet and it's a bit tangy. Definitely worth a try.
6. Little Lemon Meringues
If you're favourite thing about summer is the never ending queue of barbecues serving lemon meringue pies, then get ready for the greatest thing since sliced bread (sort of). You can make individual lemon meringue pies in mason jars, and it's not even that hard. Plus, because they're so small, you don't have to feel guilty if you finish the whole thing on your own.
7. Poor Man's Mud Pie
If you've never had the ridiculously indulgent (and often overpriced) Mississippi Mud Pie, then you're missing out. But if you don't want to spend a lot on the delicious dessert, you can make easy one that you can take with you everywhere. All you need to do is layer crushed Oreos, vanilla ice cream and hot fudge in a mason jar, all topped with chilled whipped cream. So delicious.
8. Strawberry Angel Food Jars
The great thing about strawberry angel food cake is that it's light, fluffy, sweet, and crazy cheap to buy at your local supermarket. What's even better about strawberry angel food jars is that you can take it with you anywhere you go. This dessert can be made with a store-bought cake or, if you're feeling like Cake Boss, you can give a homemade one a try.
9. S'more Mason Jar
With summer comes the hot weather, with hot weather comes camping, and what would camping be without s'mores? Awful, that's the answer. But if you live in the city and don't have access to a fire pit, or you want a taste of camping but don't want the bugs, uncomfortable sleeping bags, or risk of bears, then you should try these s'mores in a jar instead.
10. Strawberry Moonshine
We said all these desserts were going to be in jars, but we never said you couldn't drink them. If the idea of drinking ice cold "moonshine" (it's really a strawberry jam concoction with lots of alcohol) straight from the jar doesn't sound like summer, we don't know what does. Not only is this a fun drink to make, but it makes the perfect dessert to have at the end of hot day spent outside lounging by the pool.
