What Montreal bar is affordable, delicious, trendy, and welcoming all at once? A day ago I wouldn't be able to tell you. Now I can confidently say that bar is L'Gros Luxe, opening this Friday in Montreal's Plateau. All that, and they serve Poutine Grilled Cheese.

No, you are not dreaming. L'Gros Luxe does serve a Poutine Grilled Cheese, but more on that later.

All from the vision of  Montreal interior designer Amlyne Phillips,  L'Gros Luxe's prohibition-era (think Boardwalk Empire) vintage decor creates an old school atmosphere which is offset by the very modern vibes of the bar and food menu. Specially crafted house cocktails and signature Caesars are key elements to the bar's awesomeness, but the food is definitely a premiere feature.

All priced around an incredibly reasonable $5 (almost no dish goes above $7) L'Gros Luxe's dishes will fill you up without unloading your wallet. A range of dishes, from starters to desserts, grace the menu, but we'll take you through what we tried to tantalize your taste buds.

Getting our stomachs growling first were the Pulled Pork Sliders. Smoky shredded pork is beautifully offset by cooling coleslaw and held together in an adorable (and delicious) brioche-esque bun for a snack that is a cool twist on the standard mini-burger.

To get a sense of the vegetarian offerings at L'Gros Luxe, we tried the Veggie Tacos. Avacados, feta cheese, and coleslaw beefed up the taco (not literally) while adding a creaminess that compliments the spicy seasonings and sweet carrot puree. One of us didn't even know these tacos were vegetarian, so don't think meat eaters won't like 'em.

As an in-between snack we mack'd on a dish you won't find many other spots: avocado french fries. Deep fried and (quite literally) bursting with flavour, avocado fries may seem strange, but damn they're good. Beware, you'll eat a whole bowl and still crave more.

Now, onto one of the signature mains of L'Gros Luxe, the grilled cheese. The classic GC is filled with smoked Gruyere, cheddar, and cheese curds, which all melt together into a perfect gooey filling of epic cheesiness. Perfectly toasted, the grilled cheese hits the golden ration between crispy and melty. Served with homemade french fries and tomato soup for dipping, L'Gros Luxe gets this classic dish arguably better than anywhere else I've been to. Sorry Le Cheese.

As if the classic wasn't good enough, L'Gros Luxe takes grilled cheese one step further by fusing it with poutine. Don't think that sounds like overkill, 'cuz its better than you'll imagine. Gravy and cheese blend into a smoky yet velvety flavour, while the added fries will take you straight to carb heaven. Paired with a heaping bowl of zesty tomato soup, the Poutine Grilled Cheese lives up to its own hype, although the classic shouldn't be forgotten either.

Other menu items include burgers, nachos, special daily sandwiches, and eventually brunch. If the rest of L'Gros Luxe's food is prepared with the same level of skill and quality of ingredients, I have no doubt anything you order will more than satisfy your hunger.

Oh, and lets not forget most of this fantastic bar food is barely priced over $5. We did mention it? Well, it deserves to be said again and again, because for real, that's a sweet deal.

L'Gros Luxe opens its doors this Friday, April 18th at 4pm and is located at 3807 St. André. Be the first of your friends to say they've eaten the Grilled Cheese Poutine and haul your hungry belly over there on Friday for cool drinks and great eats.
