You can do lots with a package of instant noodles, and I don't just mean making different kinds of ramen. The incredibly cheap condensed pack of carbs and flavouring is even capable of breaking down cultural-cuisine barriers, as witnessed in the fusion of Italian and Japanese dishes that is the Ramen Crust Pizza.

Culinary alchemist J. Kenji Lopez-Alt is the crazy cook behind this concoction, who thought up the ramen-based pizza one random night when he had a pack of instant noodles, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese on-hand. That's basically all you need to create this Japanese-Italian dish, along with whatever toppings you like.

You can find the original how-to on Serious Eats, but read on below for a basic breakdown. To start, cook your ramen noodles just a tad (enough to break up but still very hard) and oil up a cast-iron pan. From there:

Place very al dente noodles in an even layer on oiled pan

Throw on a light layer of mozza (this will prevent sauce seepage to bottom of pan)

Sauce it up, then add more cheese

Put on toppings of your choosing + more cheese, 'cuz why not?

Bake in 450F oven for about 20 minutes

Remove from pan, slice, and indulge
