For example, I wish I’d known what types of jobs were going to be available to me.\nWith all the baby boomers approaching retirement, it would’ve been nice to know exactly what jobs we’re going to be in high demand when I was choosing my major. Specialized Nurse Practitioner\nThis is the perfect job for those who love to help other people. SPNs have additional training (graduate studies in Nursing), as they work closely with doctors and other nurses to provide their patients nursing and medical care. They are responsible for all aspects of a person’s health.\nSPNs have a very important role, as they study and monitor their patients behaviours and conditions. They also prescribe diagnostic tests, medications and treatments according to their specialty.\nIf you’re thinking of becoming a SPN then you might want to start with some training in Health, Assistance and Nursing. A number of alluring scholarships are also available.\n2. Orderly\nThis is the perfect job for good communicators who like to be a reassuring presence for others. Orderlies provide basic care and physical assistance to their patients, helping them maintain and improve their overall health. They’re hospital attendants who assist medical and nursing staff with various tasks and interventions. Orderlies help patients in the morning, with bathing, and getting dressed, during meals and at bedtime.\nYou have to be in great physical condition as well since you are handling patients daily. One of the best parts about this job is that you get to work with a team of other professionals who are just as passionate about their jobs.\nWhile you don’t need any post-secondary schooling to become and orderly, there are several healthcare assistance training programs offered in Quebec that have excellent job placement rates.\n3. Pharmacist of Establishment\nAnother very important role in the health and social services network! Pharmacists are your go-to professionals for everything related to medicine and treatments. They are essential partners for doctors, as they know which specific medicine can help treat and prevent disease. Indeed, increasingly complex drug treatments and the increased role of drugs in the treatment of diseases make pharmacists indispensable to patients and healthcare professionals.\nSo what’s the next step to becoming a pharmacist of establishment? Pharmacists are required to have an undergraduate degree and become members of the Ordre des Pharmaciens du Québec.\nThe Université Laval and Université de Montréal both offer great programs in pharmacy! Many scholarships are also available.\n4. Psychologist\nIf you’ve been told you’re a great listener and your friends always go to you for advice, then you should consider becoming a psychologist. These professionals make use of their strong interpersonal skills all the while maintaining an especially meticulous and scientific point of view in order to evaluate various states of mind.\nIt is extremely rewarding as you get to work with a variety of clients on a daily basis. Indeed, the psychologist can work in the community, for example, with children and adults with mental health problems in a CLSC or a youth center. A psychologist can do psychological assessments, help people adapt to change, as well as understand and modify their attitudes and behaviour.
