One day we’re going to get that killer job. Or that apartment. Or travel the whole world. But between now and then, we need to buckle down and make some serious moolah to help us get there.\nNow, I don’t know about you, but everywhere I go I keep hearing about people working on their side-hustle. Whether it’s a business they’re working on in their spare time to become the next big thing or maybe they're just in need of a bit of extra cash. They are putting in extra hours in the evening and on weekends on a job outside of their 9-5 to help fund their dreams.\nThe amazing thing about this day and age is that you don’t need a fancy office to start a side-hustle. All you need is a laptop, some Wi-Fi and a comfortable mattress. All of a sudden, you've turned your bedroom into your own office. Huzzah!\nSo what kind of careers can you kick off from right there in your jammies in bed? Here’s the rundown of the jobs you can get in on right from your mattress:\n@leonsfurniture\n1. Writer\nLet’s start off with the one I am most qualified to write about: being a writer! I’m right here in my bed writing this. Bet you thought I had a desk, didn’t you? No need! My theory is that all your best ideas happen when you’re close to the land of nod. I mean, what better way to get those creative juices flowing than in the comfort of your own bed?\nThere are plenty of ways you can write. You might be freelancing for a publication, or writing a blog, or a book. Maybe you even want to specialize: educational writing, writing about a specific niche. It’s just a medium - you can do with it what you want.\nvia @pollyandbooks\n2. Translator\nDon't ignore your knowledge of multiple languages, being bilingual is a skill set not everyone possesses. In an amazing multi-lingual city like Montreal, don't miss an opportunity to leverage your abilities. You might think that everybody can speak multiple languages but this is definitely not the case. As globalization continues to bring people together, creating an intersection of cultures, customs and languages, opportunities to put your skills to use are abundant!\nDust the cobwebs off your old language dictionaries from high school because there is no reason you can’t be a translator from right there on your mattress, translating articles, essays or videos.\nvia @etsy\n3. Etsy Store Owner\nOkay, get ready: this is a multi-pronged bed attack. Not only can you craft some amazing things while in bed (knitting Pokemon, sewing bags, drawing some sweet Game of Thrones fan art), but your bed can also be your photo studio.\nNeed to display your work as a flat-lay like the Instagram experts do? Neaten up those throw pillows and make your bed into a gorgeous little photo studio to add that textured background to your art.\nThen, once you’re done, your bed becomes your office again where you can rake in dollars from your creativity.\nvia @lioninthewild\n4. Developer\nDid you know that some of the biggest tech companies in the world work remotely? That’s right: It’s time to get your nerd on.\nAwesome companies like Buffer, Upworthy, Kissmetrics, Meet Edgar, Microsoft, Apple, Mozilla, Automattic and more all have remote roles, and some companies are 100% remote. We are living in the future for realsies!\nWhile you don’t need to be a developer to work remotely for all these companies, it does help because there are loads of remote roles for those in dev. Whether you’re a web developer, app developer or game developer, the perfect office involves Cheetos on the sheets.\n5. Tutor\nIn a city like Montreal, bursting with uni students, did you ever consider offering to tutor right from your home? That’s right - you can be an online tutor! Whether you’re skyping in calls, editing essays or helping find study materials, you can be a tutor from your own home. And, of course, you don’t just need to provide your services locally - if you have a knack for a particular subject, you could tutor people from all over the world. Thank you, internet!\n6. Virtual Assistant\nHave you heard of virtual assistants? A virtual assistant is an administrative or personal assistant who works for clients online. Love organizing things? Perfect! What about research? Or bookkeeping? Great! The best part of being a virtual assistant is that you can specialize in the tasks you are awesome at - whether it’s creating social media content or social events! Do you need a fancy office? No! Throw a stock photo of an office on Linked In and no one will be any wiser.\nWith all this work going on in your bedroom office, you need a reliable mattress to help you power through the day and snooze like a kitten at night. Our personal fave is the Kingsdown Squeeze™ mattress which is perfect for the budding entrepreneur that you are!\n@leonsfurniture\n7. Online Marketer\nOnline marketing is a huge field these days, covering everything from Social Media Management, Search Engine Marketing, or Social Media advertising. There are plenty of courses online and websites from tech companies giving you the low-down to get you started - but in the end, it’s hands-on practice that shows the difference between the pup and the wolves.\n\nPro tip: If you want the title of ‘marketing wizard’ added to your resume, you might just need to put on a bathrobe to add some majesty to this work-from-home role.\n8. Graphic Designer\nOkay, you MIGHT need to attach an iMac to the end of your bed for this job to be run from your bedroom. You need a hi-res screen to be able to make magic happen in graphic design, but there’s no reason you can’t be a freelance graphic designer for your side-hustle. There are loads of online job boards waiting for new talent.\n9. Airbnb Aficionado\nSince we’re talking about side-hustles, you don’t actually need to put in a lot of hours to earn some cash. Just place an ad online! If you’ve got a spare bedroom (with a gorgeous mattress ready to go), then why not rent out your spare room on Airbnb? Meet some new folks and earn some cash.\n@leonsfurniture\nSeriously, working from your bed is totally worth it. Plus, who wants to sit for 8 hours straight in an uncomfortable office chair?
