I hear a lot of people telling me that they don't mind the cold, and that Montrealers actually embrace it better than elsewhere (obvs), but let's be honest, it kinda blows. Gone are the days of casually stepping outside without having to really consider more than just if the sun is out. Now, waking up in the morning is a test of strength and will power as you fight the urge to snuggle up deep in the warmth of your duvet and find yourself kinda wishing for one last heat wave.

You'd think we'd be well used to it by now and yet our collective fettle invariably takes a hit every time, harshly sobered by falling temperatures and the inevitable implications. Don't worry, you are not alone, we all go through it together, and it's not all bad.

1. Be super pumped to bust out your fall jacket

There is something so gratifying about digging out your favourite fall jacket to combat that chilly day. The extra layer gives you extra style points just not possible in the summer.

2. Pretend the cold doesn't bother you, but know you are lying to yourself

It's called denial, and not the river, though a trip to Egypt is sounding pretty nice right about now.  Tell yourself all you want that the cold ain't so bad, but deep down you know it's a lie.

3. Memorize which bars have a heated terrasse

Just because it's sweater weather now doesn't mean you want to drink inside. Thankfully someone invented heat lamps and you know exactly where to find 'em.

4. Consider a long-term relationship

Summer lovin' had you a blast, oh yeah, Summer lovin' happened so fast, but that warm body you couldn't wait to get out of your bed last month, seems a lot more appealing now, and if nothing else, can help you save on Hydro at least for a little while.

5. Get excited for hockey

Probably the most redeeming quality of the cold weather in this city is the welcomed return of hockey. A Habs win makes everything better.

6. Debate staying in tonight

You spent most of the summer out enjoying street festivals, outdoor concerts, bar hopping and the like, but maybe not so much anymore. Bringing the party to you, while you stay nice and toasty inside, is making a lot of sense right now.

7. Wonder why you still live in this climate

Summertime is awesome. It's sunny, it's hot, and all around you are green trees and blossoming flowers, but when the cold creeps in, stripping away any visible signs of life, you suddenly can't remember what in the hell you are doing living here and daydream about packing up and moving down south indefinitely.

8. Mentally prepare yourself to get out of bed

It's maybe the toughest battle you'll face all day, putting that first foot out on the icy floor. You know you gotta do it, but it seems impossible. You start slowly exposing different body parts in an attempt to acclimatize but that never really works.

9. Thank Jeebus for Netflix

Netflix is definitely a godsend, especially on those cold days when you can think of nothing better than cozying up on the couch for the foreseeable future. It's the perfect time to marathon all those shows you were too busy to watch in the summer.

10. Die a little on the inside

The cold weather can be way harsh for the soul. The days are shorter, the mornings are frostier, and the reality of winter is quickly setting in. It's okay to cry a little, it's kinda sad after all, but don't worry, summer's only 10 months away...

11. Remember all the awesome food to be eaten

Apple crumble, pumpkin pie, turkey stuffing, Halloween! Remember the fall season brings with it plenty of good eats and sweet treats to help get you over the slump. And since it's no longer beach season, you don't even have to feel bad about it!
