Getting broken up with sucks, but staying home isn't an option. You need to get out there as soon as possible before you get stuck in a rut where you end up playing the victim for your own dramatic production.
Plus if you wallow in self pity too long you'll start to piss off everyone around you, and then you'll really be alone. So get off the couch, suck it up and go do something!
1. Eat Your Heart Out
Those people who suggest that you go to the gym to “relieve stress” are oblivious to the extreme comfort you can get from a fridge. The last thing I want to do after coming to the screaming end of a relationship is pick up a bar and do some dead lifts. No. I want to feel sorry for myself and eat my feelings, thank you very much. For the sweet tooth in you we suggest a heaping cone of Ripples hazelnut ice-cream . Or if you’re leaning towards some more savory nosh, go on over to Patiti Patata and grab a bacon cheeseburger with some of their delicious crispy french- fries.
2. Retail Therapy
Unfortunately it’s true, money can’t buy happiness. However it can buy you the ability to temporarily forget about your shitty ex-boyfriend through some new cool stuff. Clothing wise, Saint Laurent is going to be your best bet. It doesn’t have as much hustle and bustle as Saint Dom or Saint Cats, but still has bomb – ass shops. You can never go wrong with vintage and Friperie Saint Laurent has all you need. The selection of amazing jackets (fur, leather, bomber, denim) is makes a great purchase plus a wonderful way to commemorate your newfound freedom.
3. Drink Til’ You Drop
If you’re break up was particularly rough then you might be more interested in forgetting as much as humanly possible. Blue Dog is a great place to sit and chill with a nice big drink. The vibe is perfect for post – break up wallowing; it’s lively yet not rowdy and has lots of seating available as well as a small dance floor. Looking to go absolutely hammed? just announced that they have affordable bottle service. Drink up kids!
4. Just Dance
Having a positive attitude about a break – up is difficult but worth the effort in the end. Dancing away the pain rather than being completely destructive towards your body and your wallet will minimize any sort of post relationship regret you will inevitably feel. Sky Bar is one of Montreal’s best gay clubs as well as a prime locale to shake that booty all night long. There are three floors that play different tunes, plus all the podiums you could ever wish to dance on.

5. Watch People Get Naked
And lastly, if you must drown those sorrows in the viewings of beautiful naked bodies then we also have some places for you to go. Café Cleopatra is one of Montreals oldest strip clubs, being the only remnant of the Red Light district. The set up is pretty immaculate with plush booths and old burlesque style stages. If you’re looking for a newer style strip club then Stock Bar is the place to be. They’re located in the heart of the Gay Village and have Montreals largest community of male strippers and dancers. Yum –my.
