It's around this time of the year when winter is at its most relentless and unforgiving. What's worse, good ol' Punxsutawney Phil (everyone's favourite psychic groundhog) has predicted yet another 6 weeks of frozen hell.

Don't get me wrong, if any city knows how to do winter, it's Montreal, but these frigid temperatures definitely leave a whole lot to be desired. Like that feeling of warm sunshine kissing your face, or swimming in water that's not frozen solid, or you know, the general ability to step outside without requiring layers upon layers of sub-zero protection.

So what's a Montrealer to do when the weather outside is truly frightful and the fire inside just doesn't cut it? Why, go where the sun does shine, of course! As it turns out, escaping the cold and finding greener pastures is not only possible, it's affordable! Any one of the warm destinations presented in this list is sure to beat those wintertime blues into submission, and if nothing else, the pictures should offer at least some temporary respite.
