Montreal Photographer Reinvents The "Self-Portrait"
Visually striking photographs by Julie Laurin.
One's self-perception can be incredibly skewed. We are our own harshest critics, and sometimes our own eyes are the only ones that can see the flaws our minds make up. When we look at ourselves, we see who we really are, or at least what we think of ourselves.
The rawness of the personal gaze is at the core of Montreal photographer Julie Laurin's photo series "Self-Portraits." In a minimalist style, and using many different materials, Laurin creates frighteningly beautiful self portraits of various individuals. Each portrait is strangely unique, representing a reality specific to each subject which reflects their respective self-image.
