Best Places To Meet Someone The Old-Fashioned Way In Montreal
Tinder is so last year.
In today’s world of dating, it is so uncommon for people to meet the old fashion way. With all these apps it is easy to get distracted from what is important — love, of course!
Love is tricky to find in any circumstance but the fact that you can meet a person at the click of the button has actually made the game harder.
People no longer talk to each other if there is not a screen between them, and if you are like me, you know that it is just not the same as meeting someone in person.
Our city is filled with amazing venues that are almost designed to facilitate romantic encounters, you just haven’t been paying close enough attention.
New City Gas — Happy Hour
New City Gas is known for its big crowds and even bigger DJ’s.
However, during our short yet lively summer, NCG opens its doors on Thursdays for an outdoor happy hour.
This is an amazing place to meet someone because there is such a wide range of people who are there, and since the space is so big, there is an even greater chance of meeting the one, plus there is food!
I know for a fact that this is a great place to meet someone, because I actually met my husband there!
Lets Get Cheeky — Speed Dating
Okay, so when I was single I tried speed dating and I actually had the best time.
The concept may seem intimidating and a little weird but the best way to explain it is that it is Tinder in person.
You have a few minutes with each candidate and you get to decide who you want to share your information with and who you want to leave behind.
, but also a great spot for a chance encounter with a potential mate.
Airports are amazing because there are people from all walks of life.
The advantage here is that you get to know intimate details about the person just from first glance. You begin from the premise that, at the very least, they are open to travel.
Next you get to judge how they travel and compare their proclivities to your own habits. Do they dress comfortably or professionally for airplane travel? Are they respectful of their fellow passengers or are they more self-absorbed?
Plus you get to see someone at their very worst — after an 8-hour red-eye flight. It can only get better from there.
Many of us love going to the airport looking a mess but if you are single, I suggest you put on your “cute” sweat suit next time you travel.
Summer is without a doubt the best time to meet someone in our city.
As Montreal locals, we all know the struggle of being cooped up in our houses all through the dead of winter.
So, by the time summer comes, none of us want to be confined to our homes.
What I love about Piknic Électronik is that everyone is there to have a good time. There is so much to do, from dancing to a live set, to grabbing a sangria at the bar, to pigging out at a food truck, picnic is great.
It is also a great place to meet someone given the amount of people who attend from all around the city on a weekly basis, it is almost impossible not to connect with strangers when you go.
If you don't meet someone, at least you will get a cute picture for Instagram out of the day!
Every sunday throughout the summer on Mount Royal, a slew of Montreal locals gather to enjoy a day of fun, sun, music, and perhaps just a wee bit of cannabis.
I have heard of a lot couples meeting at Tam Tam's because it is just such an easygoing place.
You can even bring your dog, pack yourself a snack and pretty much do whatever it is your heart desires, including meeting your next true love!
The great thing about IKEA is that everyone who is there is looking for something, and one day that something could be you.
This is an ideal place to find your match as well as their style.
You could have your first date the first day you meet as you help pick out each other's furniture, I mean….
And if you're really ambitious, why not test out living together in one of those model apartments?
La Ronde is our city's biggest and most popular amusement park. It is one of those places where you can act like a child even when you are way into your twenties.
La Ronde is all about fun and when you are having fun, you look your best.
You can even stay at wait for the fireworks if you end up meeting your match, how romantic would that be?
The Orange Line
As many of us Montreal locals know, the orange line of the metro is a bit of a hot spot.
Think about it, meeting someone on the metro is straight out of a chick flick. You see the other person, they are looking at you, your eyes lock and it is magical…or, the person is super not interested and slightly bothered by you so they change cabins, something that is very easy to do on our Azur trains.
Regardless of the situation, romance has a funny way of coming for you when you are least expecting it, like on your way to work in the morning.
Just be sure to avoid being creepy. Never touch anyone on the metro.
My advice, keep your eyes and heart open during your commute!
