The Fantasia Film Festival may be have come and gone (last day today!) but another, higher brow film festival will fill the cinema-void left in the city in just a few short weeks. Bringing together films from across Quebec, Canada, and the whole globe, Montreal's World Film Festival will be filled with films to end the summer viewing season.
The Montreal World Film Festival (MWFF) is set to begin on August 21st, and will screen films until September 1st. All about promoting cultural diversity and understanding between different cultures, the MWFF will be showcasing over 400 different types of movies from 74 countries.
Not every single film to be screened is a full-length feature, as there are many categorires based on time, origin, and skill level. Below are the 8 categories of films to be seen at the MWFF:
- World Competition (full-length and shorts)
- First Films World Competition
- Out of Competition
- Focus on World Cinema (full-length and shorts)
- Documentaries of the World (full+medium-length films, shorts)
- Student Film Festival – National selection (shorts)
- Student Film Festival – International selection (shorts)
All films will be screened at three different venues: Théâtre Maisonneuve in Place des Arts, The Imperial (1430 Bleaury), and the Cineplex Odeon in the Latin Quarter (350 Emery).
The full program of films at the MWFF hasn't been released yet, but to stay in the loop and to get any and all updates, head over to the official website here.
