Start honing your vocal chords, learning your lyrics, and choosing your most glamorous performing outfit, because karaoke is coming to the Plateau this month. Not just any kind of karaoke, this will be an outdoor community event called Héros de Karaoké, where the entire borough will be belting out tunes in the park.
Plateau-Mont-Royal will be be hosting Héros de Karaoké every Saturday from September 27th to October 11th at Parc du Portugal (map). Folks of the Plateau will starting singing at 2pm 'til 6pm, with the event moved to the Sunday in case there's a rain-out.
Anyone can come to Héros de Karaoké, and all are invited to perform. This is karaoke people, so no one is going to be judging Simon Cowell-style you on your pitch, because being a bad singer is part of the fun. Singing isn't necessary though, and everyone is invited to chill in the park for the event.
A web series will also be airing in line with the event, described as a show focusing on "the men and women with hidden talents; to the heroes whose fascinating and free performances will roam the bars, all while entertaining and moving their customers."
One person you will definitely see on stage is the mayor of the Plateau Luc Ferrandez, who has confirmed he will be belting out a tune at the inagaural event. Better yet, the public gets recommend songs for him to sing by posting your recommendation on the Facebook page. My suggestion will definitely be for Madonna's "Like A Virgin," but at the end of the day Ferrandez will be choosing a song he's comfortable with, so Madonna may be wishful thinking.
