Working at MTL Blog is a constant "taking the good with the bad" scenario. As a reader, I'm sure you can relate.\nOn the one hand, I know that the site's large network allows me to connect to Montrealers, and when we actually post relevant content, MTL Blog can act as a pretty useful resource for everything from news to events to new restaurants.\nBut then there's the dark side to working here, like the constant "OMG you work for MTL Blog? How could you let them post [Insert controversial Russian-related article here]!!??"\nYou know exactly what I'm talking about. You've no doubt left mean comments on the, shall we just say, less "useful" articles posted on the site, and in all honesty, I can't blame you. Except maybe the folks who make death threats, because come on, that's a little much.\nWhat gets me through the work day, though, is focusing more on the positive elements of MTL Blog, and trying to use the site as a force for good as much as I can. Fortunately, while I indulge myself in some mild delusions, there are plenty of other websites that highlight everything that's wrong with the site, meaning I don't really have to.\nA little over a year ago, Twitter user @Crystalmhm pitched the idea of an article all about MTL Blog parody sites, and I think it's just about time we gave some cred to the folks who make it their duty to make us all look like idiots.\nSo without further ado, here are the best MTL Blog parody sites around, with each site paying for a spot on this because that's how "best of's" work. Just kidding, but the actual amount of readers who think that's how it works is kind of intense. Always look for that "Branded Content" heading folks.\nSooo MTL\nLet's start with the cream of the crop, the site to begin the MTL Blog parody trend: Sooo MTL.\nAt first, I had mixed feelings about Sooo MTL. While some of their articles were straight up hilarious, others seemed too rage-fueled to be considered satire, which is supposed to be at least somewhat impartial. But over time, Sooo MTL has fallen into a parody-groove that is nothing but funny.\nA choice selection of their titles, which comically criticize our own posts perfectly, include "MTL’S FINEST DADBODS FOR SUMMER 2015", "MAYBE THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST PLACE FOR EATING EVER IN A GOOD CIRCUMFERENTIAL AREA, CHANCES ARE", "EXCLUSIVE: MOS DEF TO BECOME SCHWARTZ’S" and "5 TYPES OF GIRLS YOU SHOULD TOTALLY ADMIRE AND WANT TO DATE," which only included pics of one of our most infamous writers, Irina.\nYou also have to give props to their commitment to satirizing MTL Blog (and similar sites), because while other parody sites have come and gone, Sooo MTL has stuck around.\nMTL Blog.Sexy\nIf you love balding actors with a filmography that can't be explained and ancient languages, MTL Blog.Sexy may be the exact site you're looking for. Basically, the site is a mirror of the real MTL Blog, just with every cover photo substituted with a pic of Nick Cage, and all the text translated into Latin.\nThe concept is weird, but pretty damn original, and if you ever need to be mildly terrified (sometimes I need a good mid-day scare to keep me focused, don't you?), just scroll through their home page. Seeing a constant stream of Nicholas Cage's crazy eyes will no doubt make you feel more than a bit uneasy.\nUnfortunately, there was a time when MTL Blog.Sexy actually replaced all of our photos with pictures of kittens, and not the Cage-ster, which I preferred for very obvious reasons. Kittens basically own the internet, so I'm pretty sure you feel the same way.\nPulpMTL\nWhen it comes to pure, unadulterated satire, no site is better than Pulp MTL. Not exactly a parody of MTL Blog, Pulp MTL definitely pokes fun at everything we do, but the site has a wider scope, making fun of local Montreal news in general, which makes it a somewhat superior option for those looking for a straight-up The Onion-style comedy news site.\nWitty and satirical without a lick of hatred, PulpMTL has it all, which is why I included it on this list, even though it's not a straight up MTL Blog.\nMTL Blogs\nWhen it comes to trashing MTL Blog content, perhaps no site does it better than "MTL Blogs." Forgoing the whole satire thing, MTL Blogs just straight up shits on anything we do over here, but the site's author does it pretty damn well.\nDescribing MTL Blog's content as "tepid reading whilst sitting on the toilet; soon to be forgotten the moment it is flushed," which is "hand picked by MTL Blog‘s staff with the surgical precision of a Tsar bomb," you can't help but feel the hatred, which is so eloquently stated, it becomes hard for me to even refute any of the site's claims.\nHowever, the site does make one f*ck up when they say the content creation process "is known to take entire minutes." It's much closer to 0.003422 seconds.\nWhat really sets MTL Blogs back, however, is the lack of conviction from the site's author. When you list a site as "the best MTL Blog review site on the internet" you need to review more than four different publications. There a lot more Montreal-based blogs to review. Jeeze, did he not do his research or something? Oh, no, wait, that's us.\nMTL Blog Sucks\nOkay, so, as I alluded to earlier, there's a very real difference between satire/parody and straight up hate. MTL Blog Sucks, as the name gives away, definitely falls under the latter category, which makes the site lose some points in my books, but hey, everyone is entitled to an opinion.\nUnforunately, MTL Blog Sucks only posted one article in their entire existence, so they didn't really have much of a chance to become more comical and ease up on the hater-ade. Still, their only post is pretty damn spot on.\nTitled "Top 10 Ways To: Create A Shitty Blog and Be an Asshole," the singular post is emotionally charged and pretty on point. I think my favourite points are number 9 "Add filler" followed by "making a complete 'top 10' is hard, so just add some filler to pad the list." Anyone who has ever written a top ten list knows this happens at least every once in a while.\nThen there's the incredibly poignant number 10: "Be an asshole," a reminder to "never back down or apologize" when someone confronts you and to always "threaten them as much as possible." I think ISIS actually follows the same mandate.\nFuck No Montreal\nThe hate is so strong with Fuck No Montreal, and though it isn't solely directed at MTL Blog, once in a while they definitely call us out on our bullshit. I think my personal favourite was when the Tumblr page's author created a lengthy not-so-loving letter directed at Jeremy Hazan.\nHere's an excerpt:\n"Seriously, though, Jeremy Hazan. Jeremy? You reading this? Or, possibly, Jeremy’s unpaid intern? As much as we dislike devoting any time or energy to your terrible work, we’re just going to write out your name a few more times, lest anyone hear it in any other context. At a job interview, taking reservations, out on Tinder, taking creepshots at a frat party, telling you to ‘get pictures of drunk sluts,’ convincing you that getting painted in a Nutella bikini counts as college credit. Jeremy Hazan, Jeremy Hazan, Jeremy Hazan."\nIn Jer's defense, the whole "get pictures of drunk sluts" rumour predates his time with MTL Blog (research people!) but you do have to hand it to the author for putting so much energy into discrediting his name, even though they hate to do so, which is a little confusing.\nHe/she should know though, that if you say Jeremy's name three times in a row he'll appear and wreak hilariously disturbing hijinks upon you and your family, just like Beetlejuice. So watch out.\nNarcicité Montréal\nSo obviously Narcicité Montréal isn't a MTL Blog parody site, but it does poke fun at Narcity Montréal, and deserves some credit for satirizing our French-speaking little sister.\nHaving just started out, Narcicité Montréal doesn't have much content, and really isn't on the same level of satire as Sooo MTL, but hey, you gotta start somewhere. Their post on "LES 10 BARS À MONTRÉAL OÙ TU TROUVERAS LES PLUS BEAUX GARS," with Brutus taking up 5 spots, will definitely give you some lols, though.\nWe'll see if these guys stick to their satirical guns and become more of a contender in the realm of parody sites.\nTo any and all parody sites we may have forgotten, many apologies. Imitation isn't the highest form of flattery as some people say, but it's still pretty damn hilarious, so keep on keeping on.
