The government of Canada has a website for Canadians looking to work abroad that is actually well-designed and easy to navigate. This is perfect for those of us who are itching to get out of the cold and out to a warmer climate.

On the site, Italy is among the countries that has a working holiday visa that allows young Canadians to live there for up to twelve months. The visa only takes about two weeks to get, and you don't need to have an internship or job lined up before you go.

TL;DR Within two weeks of applying, you can get a "working-holiday" visa that lets you live in Italy for up to a year.

The government of Italy offers working visas for youth aged between 18 and 35 who have a Canadian passport and are currently working in Canada. You also need to be able to prove that you will have 200 euros for each month that you spend there.

More details about how to apply and what documents you need can be found on the website of the Italian embassy in Canada here. To apply, you need to go in person to one of the Italian consulates. There is one located in Montreal.

You don't need to already have a job or internship lined up for when you get there, and twelve months leaves you with plenty of time to find gainful, temporary employment.

Once you have the visa, you can participate in the "Youth Exchange Program," which "allows Canadian youths to seek work opportunities in Italy for a maximum period of six months starting from the date of entry in Italy."

Italy is a center for culture and food (pasta, pizza?) and it makes sense that we all want to live there. Aside from the food, Italy has some amazing architecture, tons of museums, the oldest university in Europe, as well the only active volcanos on the European mainland.

Not to mention that Venice is slowly sinking, so you might as well go now before it's too late.

This visa is a perfect way to balance travel and learn about new cultures while still making money and gaining work experience.
