7 Secret Google Hacks You Probably Didn't Know Existed
Vintage video games and odd search functions!
Google is a massive component to all of our daily lives... I mean, it's quite possible you stumbled upon this article from Google, to begin with.
They're the most dominant internet entity in the world, and they will never, ever, go away.
There are a ton of hidden features, tips, and tricks on Google that aren't spoken about or advertised a ton, like their hack to find your phone if you''re one of those people that should probably have dummy strings attached to everything.
I was poking around on Google the other day and came across a ton of weird functions and options that really have little use, other than the sheer enjoyment of something different, or maybe something to help you waste a few extra minutes in a day.
Here are 7 weird Google hacks you maybe didn't know existed:
1. Vintage Video Games
This is the coolest one I've seen so far. If you recall, sometimes on the anniversary of a vintage video game, or it's creator, Google will have a quick playable game on their landing screen.
These games do not disappear and are still there to play, whenever you want!
Atari Breakout, PAC-MAN, and Snake are still available, and can be found and played simply by these two functions:
- Google "Atari Breakout" and click on image results, boom - you're playing the classic brick-breaker game.
- Google "PAC-MAN" and click the "I'm Feeling Lucky" search option, "insert your coin" and just like that, you're in a retro arcade.
- Type "Google Snake", click "I'm Feeling Lucky"... and waste your time playing Snake like we used to do on alll the old cellphones you likely had if you're not under 25.
2. Google Barrel Roll
Super simple... incredibly
not useful. Type "do a barrel roll", hit enter - it rolls. Tah-Dah!
If you wanna get all crazy with it, type "do a barrel roll 10 times."
Another super simple and "incredibly useful" function on Google... set all your search results to be a little crooked by searching "askew."
This one made me laugh a tad and immediately think it matches the majority of the search results you'd find that probably aren't quite what you're looking for.
4. Google Gravity
Google's "gravity" search function will automatically transmit the gravity around you into your Google search bar - and everything falls to the bottom of the screen... for no apparent reason.
Type out "Google Gravity", hit "I'm Feeling Lucky" and watch it drop!
5. Zerg Rush
Kind of a vintage video game, but not really. Zerg Rush is an odd Google game function that is similar to the gaming classic Starcraft!
Search "Zerg Rush", hit enter - boom, done.
6. Google Sphere
Another super simple Google search function to give the landing page a little bit of new, different life.
Search for "Google Sphere", hit "I'm Feeling Lucky" and your search bar and tabs will start circling around the page while following your mouse.
7. Google Underwater
Totally useless, but very much appreciated by someone like myself who has a deep love for water and the sea.
Search "Google Underwater", hit "I'm Feeling Lucky" and you have a deep-sea aquarium on your Google landing page.
A lot of these "experiments" are done by Mr.Doob - and they're just a lot of pointless fun.
He does different ones all the time, and you can check em all out here.
