I've said it before and I'll say it again, Montreal needs more beaches.

We're a freakin' island and yet we have virtually no water access.

Sure there's the Jean Dore Beach, but that's it.

Clock Tower Beach isn't even a beach, it's just a patio with sand on it.

But soon, Montreal will have one of the coolest and most original beach setups in the province.

Normally beaches have sand, water and maybe a little shack to change into you bathing suit. But this beach will be so much more than that:

There will be a relaxation zone complete with hammocks.

A sport zone with beach volleyball and a badminton court.

A huge chunk of the beach will be preserved as a nature zone.

The project will be the perfect blend between a park and a beach.

To encourage people to spend the day relaxing in the sun, the beach will also have a mini library so you'll never need to bring reading material with you.

The design is meant to work with the existing layout of the area so it will require very little excavation or alterations.

It is also meant to be welcoming to everyone, which is why it will be totally accessible by people with reduced mobility.

The beach is schedule to be completed by the end of 2017 but it will only open in 2018.
