A Quebec Teen Has Died After A Tragic Chairlift Accident
This could have easily been avoided.
A Quebec teen died due to a tragic accident, caused by a chair lift stunt gone wrong this past Tuesday evening. She and friends were hitting the slopes at Mont-Video located in Abitibi-Témiscamingue region about 6 hours north west of Montreal.
The Val-D'or teen, Laurence Mofatte, intentionally jumped off a chair lift in an attempt to land on a rock face and ski down it. This was a stunt that she and some of her friends had allegedly attempted in the past.
TL;DR A Quebec teen has tragically died attempting to jump off a chair-lift. Although the teen allegedly completed the jump before, the 5-meter fall proved to be fatal this time. She was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead this past Tuesday evening.
However, the 15-year-old was not so lucky this time, as this particular fall proved to be fatal.
The total distance between the chairlift and the rock is approximately 5 meters, and apparently Laurence was familiar with the jump.
Even though she was wearing a helmet at the time of the fall, it did not protect her. She was rushed to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy is being performed to reveal the precise cause of her death. Mont-Video was shut down after the accident, and a full investigation is underway. The ski hill announced on their Facebook page that they are "profoundly saddened by this tragic accident."
