A "Sabrina The Teenage Witch" Remake Is Coming To Netflix Canada, Here's Everything You Need To Know
Inspired by "The Exorcist."
I'm not exaggerating when I say that TGIF Friday's on ABC actually defined my childhood.
If you came-of-age in the 90's too, you will relate to this as well. Family Matters, Boy Meets World, and of course - Sabrina The Teenage Witch, these are all shows that bring us a palpable sense of nostalgia.
Hoping that it will pluck our memory strings, Netflix is harnassing that sense of nostalgia by recreating some of the most iconic shows and films from that decade.
The classic 90s show Sabrina The Teenage Witch, which originally premiered in 1996, is now being remade and released by Netflix in late-October of this year.
Don't expect a straight remake of bubbly and comedic classic 90's shows though.
"The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" will feature the same characters as the classic, but its story and aesthetics will take a MUCH darker spin.
As you can see, the title is already evoking some seriously spooky and satanic vibes.
Produced by the same people that brought us Riverdale, this modern adaption will tap into our generation's desire to be spooked, scared, and entertained. Right in time for Halloween, too!
Netflix even describes the remake as being inspired by horror classics Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist.
All of your favorite characters are back:
Sabrina Spellman will be played by Kiernan Shipka. As in the original, Sabrina is a half witch, half human. However, her witch side is "evil" as her character is working to consistently battle and reconcile her dual nature. What will she ultimately choose - light or dark?
Harvey Kinkle (Sabrina's Boyfriend) will be played by Ross Lynch. Kinkle is the heartthrob of the series who will have to overcome perpetual obstacles keeping him and Sabrina apart.
Hilda Spellman (Sabrina's aunt) will be played by Lucy Davis. This is Sabrina's "kind" aunt who has always been a mother figure to the young half-witch.
Zelda Spellman (Sabrina's other aunt) will played by Miranda Otto. This is her "mean" aunt. In this remake she is full-blown evil, believing there is no greater honour than serving the Dark Lord as a member of the Church of Night.
If you want to see it all in one snapshot, check out the official trailer below, it already has over 2 million views.
TL;DR: A spooky remake of Sabrina The Teenage Witch is coming to Netflix on October 26th.
