Canadians Might Have Been Compromised In Uber Hack
Personal information of millions of customers worldwide stolen.
Although Uber has owned up to a year-old security breach in which the names, e-mail addresses, and mobile phone numbers of 57 million users worldwide were taken, it won't clarify the extent to which Canadians were affected.
The hack is only the latest disclosure of a breach involving a major company.
Earlier this year, Credit Reporting Company Equifax reported that the personal information of 145 million Americans had been stolen. On that occasion too, Canadian data was initially unavailable. Eventually, it was revealed that 8000 Canadians were affected.
Uber is immensely popular in Montreal. As far back as 2015, it logged 300,000 rides a month in the city.
