Premier François Legault has declared COVID-19 in Quebec an official health emergency. Because of this, he has requested that all people over the age of 70 avoid leaving their homes, unless absolutely necessary. This decision is based on the fact that this age group is much more vulnerable and will undergo more serious consequences if they catch the virus.

Premier François Legault also announced that all visits to senior homes are no longer permitted in Quebec until further notice. In this same vein, all visits in Quebec hospitals have also been banned.

In the press conference held on March 14 at 1 p.m., Legault referred to the current COVID-19 situation as an "emergency," stressing the seriousness of the potential spread of it in our province, in our country, and globally.

The Premier of Quebec stated, "this is a race against the clock."

In hopes of reducing the spread of coronavirus, the Quebec government has also banned all indoor events with over 250 people and has closed all schools, CEGEPs, and universities in the province for the next two weeks.

The banning of senior home and hospital visits are among the most recent precautionary measurement that the Government of Quebec has put in place.
