There has been a lot of buzz in Montreal around the recent announcement by the City concerning a 7 to 10 day sewage dumping of 8 billion litres of waste into the Saint Lawrence River scheduled for October 18th. Let's not forget that we've been drawing our drinking water from the St. Lawrence since 1819! The shockingly massive amount of untreated human waste (from homes, industries and hospitals) that is going to be dumped has attracted widespread media attention - successfully "suspending" the process.\nSuspending the process. Not stopping it. So let's help them out.\nWhile we know many of the obvious cons, here are some of the proposed explanations:\nThe river water moves fast enough to dilute the sewage as it is dumped into the river.\tThis used to be common practice in Montreal - the last time it was done was 1980.\tThe Quebec Provincial Ministry for the Environment gave this dumping the 'green light'.\tWe apparently have no other solutions.\nWhen there's a will, there's a way.
