Kudos to the City of Montreal and Quebec, because both are joining forces in an initiative to lower the amount of harmful emissions released into our atmosphere through the installation of charging stations for electric cars. To be set up all around the city, with a focus on downtown Montreal, the electric charging stations will put Montreal as a leader in eco-friendly transportation technologies.

Announced during a news conference last week, Denis Coderre outlined the plan, stating 106 electric car charging stations will be installed by spring 2016, reports CBC. According to the city's mayor, the project will make Montreal the first Canadian city to have a charging station network in its urban core.

Another 80 charging stations are also planned for the Island of Montreal. Unlike those placed in the downtown core, which will be installed on the street, these 80 charging stations will be placed inside of parking lots and other like areas.

Coderre doesn't want to stop there, though, as the mayor also announced that he would like to see a total of 1, 000 charging stations within the city by 2020.

Ideally, with a large addition of electric car charging stations in the busiest areas of Montreal, more and more citizens will adopt the greener automotive alternative that is the electric car. Given that the city already has its own Tesla dealership right by the Orange Julep, electric cars are already accessible to Montrealers, so get on it people, for Mother Nature. We owe her one.
