Google's Terrifying "Stalker Timeline" Follows You Everywhere You Go
I feel violated. Don't you?
We've all heard about how Facebook keeps tabs on us and our internet activity, but Google, the far more powerful search engine does the same and better. Their stalking is on a whole other level.
How would you feel if you knew that Google tracked your every move and they keep it saved? Pretty freaked out I bet. Well, they do and the information they keep about you is extensive.
I actually learned about some of the overly creepy ways Google was keeping tabs on me when I lost my phone. Luckily for me, their stalking came in handy but it made me feel really weird to know how much they were following me around.
Everyone is aware that their phone is trackable, I'm sure. But it's terrifying to realize just how much they are tracking about you. Want to know what they know about you? The answer is everything. Absolutely everything.
Patrick Cain from Global News looked into how what information Google was storing about him and ended up downloading a file of over 20 GB when he asked them for it. Check out everything google had on him.
To begin, if you play around with your history on Google Maps, you'll be able to see every single place you've ever been. And I'm not exaggerating. Just check this out:
Yep, that's what it looks like. That's everywhere I've been and that's just Montreal. If you zoom out, you can see everywhere I've been on vacation too.
Here's my freaking trip to Greece. They even have information and have me placed in Amsterdam for my freaking connecting flight. I'm telling you, they really follow you everywhere.
And that's only the beginning! If you double-click on a location, it'll show you when you went and your entire itinerary for the day. It'll say how long it took you to reach each location, how long you stayed there, where you went after. It literally follows your every move.
Check out this itinerary from my day on May 24, 2016. From my trip to a concert to my stop at Starbucks, Google followed me.

This feature is called Google Timeline and in my opinion, it is WAY too invasive. Anyone with your login information can find your exact location and see everywhere you went dating back YEARS.
Don't worry, you can download all this information for yourself and even delete it. I would go do that if I were you. And, of course, you can turn it off. Do that too.
Beyond that, Google has access to your entire search history, activity history, YouTube history, Gmail history. They have access to your entire history. They know what you Googled, when you Googled it, and where you got coffee after you Googled it.
None of this is illegal, and you can complete access to it. It's just a little freaky when you think about it. Thing is, it's also really cool. It's like you can go back and check out your memories. You can see all the places you've been and when you went...exactly where and when.
So if you want to check out all this information, just go to your Settings on Google Maps and click on Timeline. From there, you'll get access to all the ways Google has been following you around.
