A new pilot project has been announced in Canada, one that will definitely make people happy.

It's based on an old idea called basic income, and it means that the government will be sending out a monthly allowance to every citizen.

How much money? No exact figures have been announced yet, but "basic income" would have to cover the basic necessities of life including rent, utilities, food, transport and clothing.

In Finland for example, every citizen gets $900 a month, in the Netherlands it's $1000.

The project will first be launched in Ontario and money has already been set aside, so it's only a matter of time.

If successful, The Basic Income Canada Network wants to see this happen across Canada including Quebec.
