Laval Asking Quebec To Fund $200 Million "Place Bell" Arena
Laval residents deserve to know the truth.
Laval’s new Place Bell arena was only supposed to cost $92.6 million, then it jumped to $150 million. Now, with new costs added to the budget, the project will cost Laval $200 million.
When the project was first pitched, former mayor Gilles Vaillancourt didn't take into account certain expenses and underestimated the costs of building and equipment, hence the much smaller original estimate.
Current mayor Marc Demers called Vaillancourt out, telling CBC Vaillancourt wasn't being honest about the actual costs and that "Laval residents deserve to know the truth."
To cover costs, Demer is asking the provincial government to throw some cash flow. The province has only gone in $46 million, but Demers wants Quebec to pay a full 50% of costs.
Should Quebec fund the Place Bell arena?
