Following the pictures being released of a caleche horse slipping and falling down in Montreal a few weeks ago, Montrealers been even more vocal about how unhappy they are with the caleche situation as a whole. But as it turns out, the carriage drivers really don't care, and made their horses work during yesterday's excessive heat.

According to Journal de Montreal, their reporters saw at least 5 horses pulling tourists around Old Montreal yesterday in 31 degree celsius weather (without the humidity), which is just straight up illegal. The law states that the horses cannot be worked in any weather that exceeds 30 degrees. So why the hell were the drivers doing it? Well, when Journal de Montreal approached one of the drivers, they said they "didn't know." Shouldn't you have to know what's illegal or not when it comes to your job? That doesn't seem like an unreasonable request.

A passerby was able to snap a picture of one of the horses that was out yesterday:

I don't know about you but I couldn't handle being outside comfortably for more than a few minutes yesterday, so I can't even imagine what it was like pulling a bunch of tourists around for hours.

Clearly Mayor Coderre's call for a health report on all the horses has done nothing to get their owners to straighten up. Hopefully he'll do something soon that actually causes some change.
