The orange, yellow and green lines of Montreal's STM metro system were shut down due to the presence of smoke.

The first line to go down was the orange, followed quickly by the yellow and green lines.

UPDATE: Normal metro service has resumed on the green, orange, and yellow lines.

EARLIER: It seems the issue originated somewhere on the eastern side of the orange line, perhaps at Berri station, considering that the yellow line was implicated.

At the time of writing this, the line is expected to be down for at least the next half hour, with service expected to resume at 9:50 a.m.

The orange line shutdown has been extended to 10:15.

Below is the tweet provided by the STM's orange line-specific Twitter page when the presence of smoke was first seen on the orange line.

The shutdown on the orange line was quickly followed by a shutdown on the green line, between Atwater and Frontenac, as well as the Yellow line, between Berri-UQAM and Longueuil.

By the time the Green line tweeted, they were expecting the issue to last until 10 a.m.

Due to the extended disruption that is expected to take at least another half hour to be resolved, the STM is suggesting passengers take the bus instead.
