While swimming in Hawaii, Kobuke was struck by a large wave and paralyzed from his shoulders down. His family has started a GoFundMe page to raise money for extensive medical bills.\nLast month, the 71-year-old Kobuke was enjoying a swim on a Kona Island beach when he was struck by a huge wave that smashed him to the ocean floor. Two more waves took him and he was saved by a lifeguard. He was quickly rushed to a local hospital where it was determined he had to be airlifted to Queen's Hospital in Honolulu.\nAfter undergoing emergency surgery, it was determined that Kobuke was paralyzed from the shoulders down. To make matters worse, he contracted pneumonia from inhaling ocean water.\nHis two sons, Ben and Nathan, have started a GoFundMe page to help raise money for their father's extensive medical bills and specialized aftercare services. Every donation, no matter how large or small, will go towards helping Kobuke and his family.\nAs of Monday, the family has raised $48,145 from 430 generous donors.\nAccording to Ben and Nathan Kobuke, their father has made it home and is currently in Montreal at Sacré Coeur Hospital.\nHe's being evaluated by the medical staff in ICU and visits are limited.
