Major Fire Near Olympic Stadium Now A 5-Alarm Blaze, Officials Warning People To Avoid The Area
The fire is still raging.
Firefighters are battling a building fire in Montreal near the Olympic stadium in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. The first alarm rang earlier today at around 2:00 p.m. In the last hour, four more alarms have rung, making this officially a five-alarm fire.
The cause of the fire is still unclear. The flames can be seen from several blocks away, and smoke is billowing out of the top of the building. Officials are asking people to avoid the area.
The blaze can be seen in this video submitted to MTLBlog by an anonymous source. Heavy smoke can clearly be seen belching out of the building. It is unclear if this is a residential building or an office building.
The building is located at the corner of ave Letourneaux and rue Deguerre, one block south of the Olympic Stadium. A public school is also nearby.
As of right now, there are no reports of any injuries.
