It should be no secret by now that Montreal is one city participating in the huge climate protest on September 27. Many schools have already announced that they're cancelling classes and students across the city are mobilizing for what's set to be the largest climate change protest Montreal has ever seen. BIXI, Montreal's most popular bike-sharing network is also getting in on the action and are offering free bike rentals from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the day of the climate march. Even if you're not marching, protest in a small way by taking a free BIXI for your morning commute. BIXI is the city's most widely-used bike-sharing network. With over 7,000 bikes and 600 stations across Montreal, BIXI has been a fixture on Montreal's roads since 2014. During the march, the company will have valets at two stations nearby to help out the protesters. On March 15 this year, Montreal saw over 150,000 people mobilize against climate change. Demanding climate action from governments, thousands more are planning to take time off work and school to protest climate change in Montreal next Friday. The march will commence from the Sir George-Étienne Cartier monument at the base of Mount Royal at noon. Montreal's climate march will attract some big names including Greta Thunberg, 16-year-old Swedish climate activist known worldwide for her fight against climate change. Thunberg, along with other activists from around the world will help lead the parade through the streets of Montreal. ‘I want you to unite behind the science. And then I want you to take real action.’ — @GretaThunberg shared this powerful message while testifying to Congress about climate change pic.twitter.com/c9zU6tA0uB— NowThis (@nowthisnews) September 18, 2019 Organized by Climate Strike Canada, the march will also feature Emma Lim, a McGill student who's making headlines for her pledge to not have children until governments take action on climate change. Expect many more Canadian climate activists and political parties to be representing at the event.
