Montrealers will experience a mix of heat, rain, storms and humidity today. Environment Canada has, in fact, issued both a heat warning and a thunderstorm watch for the Montreal area.

The city has experienced a heatwave that began over the weekend and continues to persist today. Unfortunately, the heavy, oppressive humidity that you've been experiencing over the last few days will continue well into tonight.

This humidity is likely what has brought thunderstorms to the region. Montreal is set to experience some dramatic thunderstorms this evening, which will continue overnight.

Environment Canada warns, "The warm and humid air mass will persist until this evening, the combined values of temperature and humidity will produce a humidex factor of 37 to 40."

Heat warnings are issued when high temperatures or humidex values may cause a risk of "heat illnesses." According to Environment Canada, the people most at risk are children, pregnant people and the elderly.

Aside from the extreme heat, Montrealers will also have to deal with impressive thunderstorms. Environment Canada warns that conditions are favourable for the development of "severe thunderstorms."

According to Environment Canada, storms can produce strong gusts, heavy rain, hail and even TORNADOS. That's right: tornados.

The government agency goes on to state that "intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. [...] Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!"

Thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable to the development of damaging weather conditions like torrential rain, hail or strong wind.

The good news? After today, the humidity will be letting up. The end of the week will be a bit cooler and sunny. Here's to actually being able to be outside without sweating buckets.
