Using the metro services in Montreal seems like a safe alternative to walking alone in the city. You'd think things would be especially fine in broad daylight, surrounded by dozens of other people.

Unfortunately that is not always the case. While Montreal is a remarkably safe city, it still sees its share of violent crime. The same is true for the metro system. Since September, for example, the Montreal police have been on the hunt for a man that assaulted two people and fled the scene.

TL;DR The SPVM is looking for a man that assaulted two individuals at Honoré-Beaugrand station last September before running away with a victim's iPhone 8. The police service released the suspect's photo and is asking for the public's help. More details below.

The incident took place last September at 10:30 a.m. on Montreal's green line headed towards Honoré-Beaugrand. Once the train made a stop at Pie-IX station, the suspect approached his victim and began kicking him in the face.

The victim, who was looking at his phone at the time, was completely blindsided by the assault. The attacker continued to deliver several blows to the victim's head before stealing his iPhone 8 and fleeing the station.

From there, the attacker tried to assault another individual in the same way, but was unsuccessful. Neither victim knew the attacker, so it's safe to say this was a completely random assault on two innocent people.

The SPVM has been unsuccessful in tracking down the man, who is described as a person of colour around 25 years old. At the time of the attack, he was seen wearing blue, three-quarter length pants, black and white converse sneakers, a white shirt, and black jean jacket.

Police have advised that anyone with information on the attacker or his whereabouts should call 911 or call Info-Crime Montreal (514-393-1133) immediately. Do not attempt to approach the suspect.
