News broke late last year that the popular Saint-Laurent punk rock barwas shutting down for good. And now you can own a little piece of an iconic Montreal music venue as the bar auctions off some of its decor.
According to the spot's goodbye post on Facebook, "after 13 years of existence and hosting nearly 2000 shows in front of 350 000 crazy fans, the Coop Katacombes will be closing its doors on December 31st, 2019."
So while it's too late to spend another night drinking beer and listening to some of the best underground bands at this Plateau spot, you can still take home some of its inventory this weekend.
There are 148 lots up for purchase and include everything from bar furniture, freezers, strobe lights, dimmers, old registers and all sorts of music venue paraphernalia. But they also have some of its awesome skull motif wall lights, Black Dahlia Murder and Cannibal Corpse signs, and other signature decorations.
This Saturday, January 25 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., you can head over to the old Katacombes location and check out some of the lots that are currently up for sale or you can check them out on the website.
If you don't mind buying sight-unseen, well, based solely on pictures, you can head to the site, sign up and start your bidding.
All the lots are sold as-is, and the prices start surprisingly low. Some of the skull lamps start their bidding as low as $20, while the signage starts as low as $10.
If you find something you just have to have, payments for purchases have to be made at the Les Maison des Encans offices on Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m and you can only pick up your newly acquired Katacombes history on January 27 and 28.
While the costs may be low (depending on how many bidders you get per item), there are also 15% auction fees and taxes that will be added to the final amount.
Katacombes was a Montreal staple for 13 years but according to the same Facebook post, they were forced to close down due to the high cost of operations, "one of the reason is that it's super expensive now downtown and the city taxes are super high."
