Montreal's Olympic Stadium Is Getting A $250 Million Makeover
The Big O gets an upgrade.
Montreal’s Olympic Stadium, otherwise known as the “Big O” is getting an upgrade: The provincial government is putting a new roof on the sports complex.
Approved at the end of October, the provincial government is expected to pay anywhere from $200 million to $250 million for the new roof, reports Radio-Canada.
It’s about time, too. The Olympic Stadium’s current roof is prone to ripping. In the last year alone, the roof tore on 677 different occasions.
"It is out of the question for us to leave the stadium adrift or to let it crumble away over time,” said Premiere Philippe Couillard, quoted by Radio-Canada.
A soft, textile roof is planned for the Olympic Stadium. The new roof will also be detachable, so it can be removed for open-air events.
