Notre-Dame Cathedral Burns Down On The Same Day As Boston Bombing And Titanic Sinking
This day seems really unlucky...
By now you've likely encountered theslowly being engulfed in flames, as news quickly spread across the Internet.
People the world over have come together to mourn the loss of the nearly-one-thousand-year-old cathedral.
This isn't the first time that people the world over have come together on April 15th to mourn a loss. In fact, it seems this day has a bit of a curse, with notably tragic events occurring throughout history on April 15th.
In addition to today's tragedy, the 15th of April also marks the date of the Boston Marathon bombing, the day the Titanic sank and the day that Abraham Lincoln died.
TL;DR While the world mourns the loss of the infamous Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, we couldn't help but acknowledge some other tragedies that suspiciously also occurred on this day in history.
The world came together over the Internet today to mourn the loss of the 850-year-old church that has long stood as a cultural, religious and national landmark in Paris, France.
Footage of the fire engulfing the spire of the church and bringing it down, taking much of the frame of the church down with it, is absolutely devastating.
And it appears that we were not the only ones to notice that this day is seemingly marked as tragic, going as far back as 1865 when Abraham Lincoln was announced dead.
While he was assassinated on the 14th, he passed away at 7:22 AM on the 15th, according to History.com.
Following this tragedy on American soil, the Titanic later sunk on April 15th, 1912, off the coast of Newfoundland, in the North Atlantic Ocean.
More than 1,500 people died as the ship quickly sank into the ocean, according to History.com.
In 2013, the annual Boston Marathon was attacked by a bomber who killed three spectators and injured nearly 260 other people, including runners participating in the race.
We can be especially grateful, then, that as of now there have been no confirmed injuries sustained today in Paris due to the fire that attempted to completely destroy the cathedral.
We will keep you updated with any breaking news in regards to the cathedral, particularly if a cause of the fire is announced.
