Quebec Ranked The #2 Happiest Province In Canada
Researchers for the American Bureau of Economic Research recently published a comprehensive look at "life satisfaction" across Canada.
The results will likely be surprising to many.
Despite infrstructure, economic, and political woes, Quebec has been ranked the second happiest province in the country, far outperforming British Columbia and Ontario, the other populous provinces.
Quebec comes second only to Newfoundland and Labrador, whose residents don't have much to bemoan.
La belle province can also claim the happiest city in the country in its capital, Quebec City. Montreal, too, fares better than other major Canadian cities like Toronto and especially Vancouver, which performs poorly in the national survey.
The authors of the study attribute Quebec's performance to "a remarkable 25-year upward trajectory of life satisfaction in Quebec relative to the rest of the country."
Progressive social policy, a healthy population, and less economic disparity than the rest of the country probably also contributes to the happiness of Quebec residents.
Though, as the cost-of-living continues to climb in Montreal, general happiness is likely to change.
