A novel approach.
Elections season in Quebec is a lot of fun.
Each cycle, the notoriously contentious political landscape in la belle province achieves new heights.

Provincial parties vie for the attention of voters with seemingly untenable plans, from half price public transit, to the eliminaton of gas cars, to, yes, a new country.
The perennial promise to separate Quebec from the rest of Canada has been mostly subdued this year, though Trump's sabotage of NAFTA could reignite sovereignist talk.
But one political party has proposed a novel approach to independence.
Parti 51 wants Quebec to become the 51st American state.
Specifically, according to the campaign video on Youtube, the party wants Quebec to have a special "sovereign" status within the United States.
Just how this is different from the province's current position within federal Canada is unclear.
The political ad is a must-see.
It includes such inexplicable highlights as a strange image of Mark Zuckerberg and a solid twelve seconds of go-pro footage of happy people white-river rafting.
That ad also claims that "based on its name alone, we can see that the U.S. is an inclusive country." LOL.
The "flexible" American flag is also listed as one reason why Quebec is a good candidate for American statehood.
