The drive for 25 continues.
With the draft and free agency behind us, it’s time to look forward to the 2014-2015 NHL season. The past few days of free agent activity have created a few interesting dates on the upcoming calendar. Here are five games that have caught our attention.
Thursday, October 16th 2014 - The Habs Home Opener Vs. The Boston Bruins
Possibly the only true rivals of the Habs, the Bruins will be coming to town to launch the 2014-2015 home schedule. Awesome visuals and kids with torches aside, this game should serve as a great measuring stick for a new Habs team. Let’s also not forget Milan Lucic’s threat to kill Dale Weise following last year’s Game 7 victory. Get your popcorn ready.
Wednesday, October 8th 2014 - The Habs Opening Night Vs. The Maple Leafs
Opening night. The Leafs. The first meaningful Habs game in four months. If you’re reading this, you’ll be watching.
Saturday, November 29th 2014 - The First Habs Home Game Vs. The Buffalo Sabres
This will be an interesting one as the team’s former captain, Brian Gionta, and the player a lot of people expected to be the next captain, Josh Gorges, their return to the Bell Centre. Both players were liked and should receive an emotional ovation and pregame nod from the team.
Saturday, November 8th 2014 - The First HNIC Scheduled Habs Game Vs. The Minnesota Wild
In case you missed it, English broadcasts of NHL games will look quite different next year. While Hockey Night in Canada will remain on the CBC, Rogers now has control over all aspects of the broadcasts. The November 8 matchup against the Minnesota Wild will be the first Habs broadcast on the new Hockey Night in Canada which will now have diehard Habs fan George Stroumboulopoulos as its anchor.
Saturday, October 25th 2014 - The First Habs Game Vs. The New York Rangers
Revenge will be on the menu as the Habs faceoff for the first time against the team that eliminated them, the New York Rangers.
