Toyota has announced the recall of 1.7 million cars across North America in relation to the ongoing recall of vehicles associated with Takata airbags. We reported last week that the Government of Canada has warned Canadians about the dangerous airbags, as there have been reports of injury and death in the United States. The airbags were created by the Japanese company Takata and are used in nearly every popular car make and model released in the last ten years. In November of last year, they recalled 1.6 million vehicles due to the malfunctioning airbag system. The airbags have been known to explode on deployment, sending shrapnel flying through the vehicle. Toyota and Lexus are both ready to replace the airbag inflator or the entire airbag system for free depending on the make and year of the vehicle. @toyotaembedded via The Toyota vehicles that are currently included in the recall are: 2010-2016 4Runner 2010-2013 Corolla and Matrix 2011-2014 Sienna 2010-2017 GX 460 2010-2013 IS 250 and 350 2010-2014 Lexus IS-F 2010-2015 Scion XB Other car brands that used Takata airbags include Tesla, Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Ford Fiat Chrysler, Nissan, Mazda, Jaguar-Land Rover, Subaru, Mitsubishi, and General Motors, according to CBS.
