Valérie Plante Wants To Reduce Saint-Catherine Street To One Lane
She also wants to remove all the parking.
All the construction plaguing Montreal's famous Saint-Catherine street is a real headache.
It's been causing businesses grief, making locals laugh at the poor attempts to cover up the construction zone from wet weather, but it might not be totally in vain!
Yup - Montreal construction that is NOT a waste of time and taxpayer money. Can you believe it? I'm not sure if I do myself.
Montreal is considering a plan to widen the sidewalks on Saint-Catherine street and will reduce the drive-through traffic to only one lane.
That's a major amount of pedestrian space to be added to the downtown strip... and that could be great considering they close it off for street sales and festival happenings a few times a year anyway.
Valerie Plante and co are expected to release details on how the revamp of Saint-Catherine street will go down. Expect the change to affect the strip between Atwater Ave. and Bleury St.
This sidewalk expansion would see 4-7 meters of space added, and would also mean there will no longer be parking available on Saint-Catherine.
