Toronto resident Rachel Lissner and her neighbours love Montreal bagels — a lot. So much so, in fact, that after putting a call-out on her neighbourhood Facebook page for a collective order from St-Viateur, she ended up receiving 2,160. That's 180 dozen. "I ordered the bagels because I had plans to go to Montreal a few weeks ago and obviously that changed," Lissner told MTL Blog. "When I applied for my citizenship last week, I decided I’d celebrate and indulge with some St V bagels since they’re my favourite, especially rosemary, which I can’t get in Toronto." About 100 of her neighbours ended up participating in her order, which she claims in a post to the Toronto Jewish Community Response to COVID-19 Facebook page made history as "the largest order of St. Viateur bagels to Toronto" and "the second-largest individual order in bakery history!" — which really makes us wonder what the largest-ever order could have possibly been. After the original post to the Seaton Village Facebook page gained momentum, Lissner turned it into a fundraiser for Sistering, a "multi-service agency for at-risk, socially isolated women and trans people in Toronto who are homeless or precariously housed." In total, she and her neighbours raised $800. A photo shared with MTL Blog by Rachel's roommate Ceilidh Wood (who ordered Rosemary and Cinnamon Raisin bagels) shows the complete order on their front steps. Courtesy of Ceilidh Wood St-Viateur bagels are available for shipment throughout the U.S. and Canada. Loyal patrons can additionally purchase T-shirts, hats, a spreading knife, and all dressed bagel mix. On its website, the Montreal institution says that it has shipped more bagels "than ever before." All St-Viateur bakeries (in the Mile End, on avenue du Mont-Royal, in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, and in Laval) are also open for bagel pick up.
