September is nearly upon us, but before students return to class and the rest of us go back the mundane world of non-summer life, one last big blow out is pretty much a necessity. Us 9-5ers have labour day weekend to look forward to, while students will enjoy the debauchery that is Frosh, or Orientation Week to you non-Montreal students. Either way, its gonna be a long three days of intense drinking and sloppiness. Here's a few tips to ensure you survive the whole way through.\n1. Pick Your Poison\nNot all alcohol is the same. Sure, they'll all get you drunk, but some effect your body and even your mood in different ways. If you're day drinking, its best to stick to mixed drinks or beer. The relatively low alcohol content will not get you too wasted too early and keep a happy buzz for daylight hours. Beware long periods of beer and red wine drinking, however, as the stuff is notorious for making people sleepy after the fifth hour. Hold off on hard liquor and shots until the sun goes down. You're much more justified to be wasted under the moonlight, and if you pass out, at least its already nighttime.\n2. Eat Food Strategically\nA lot of people neglect solid foods when they're on a liquid diet. Bad move. You may not be hungry but your body still needs something to fuel it other than carbs from beer and liquor. Fruits are a great way to maintain energy levels and not bog your stomach down too much. Plus the vitamins will help your body process alcohol and mitigate your hangover.\nAt least one solid meal (poutine or hotdogs will do) is really important, although be sure to eat at strategic hours. Having a huge carb filled meal right before you hit the town will only make you feel full/unsexy and most likely really sleepy. Try to keep large meals to earlier in the day, or get some solid drunchies late at night. Having a full stomach after you drink will help soak up alcohol which leads to less hangover. Just be wary of overeating/puke-age.\n3. Water is Necessary\nAlcohol drains you of water. The dehydration, and its effect on your brain, is the main culprit for making someone feel 'drunk.' Drinking water may seem counter intuitive to those looking to get wasted, but your body has a serious need for it. If you drink nothing but drank all day, you won't survive past day one because your hangover will be of epic proportions. Try to have a glass of H2O at least once every 2 or 3 drinks. You may have to pee a bunch, but its saving you a lot of pain the next morning.\n4. Avoid Road Beers\nTaking a beer or two along for the walk to a friends house or between predrinks sounds like a great idea, only it is kind of illegal. Most times of the year you can easily get away with it. Not during Frosh. The cops know all about this weekend of sloppiness and too many people have been busted for their boldness, especially in student populated areas like the ghetto. Don't be one of them and just keep the drinking to indoor areas. If you really need to, stick to side streets and avoid major traffic.\n5. Stay Connected and Stay Conscious\nDrunk adventures are the most fun one can have. Nothing beats making random friends and going off on your own to make some (partial) memories. The only problem is you just ditched your posse and they have no clue where you are. Mother hens go nuts and sassy drunks will have no sympathy and not feel bad about ditching. Either way you may end up stranded with strangers, or alone, without a plan to get back home. That gets to be even worse during closing hours and if your especially inebriated. Just be sure to let people know where you're going and have a saved map of how to get back. And, as always, the buddy system never fails.\n6. Get Sleep!\nAlcohol will put you to sleep, but the hours you spend in slumber aren't what one would call 'beauty rest.' Even after 8 hours, you may find yourself exhausted. That ok. Sleep in a bit and rest up for the rest of the day. If your feeling tired around 5 or 6, feel justified in taking a nap. But beware the drunk nap, it can easily turn into a solid slumber and missing a night of fun.\nFollow these guidelines and you should be fine for Frosh or any other alcoholic bender.
